RCMA Advocates in Florida to Promote Roof Coatings as a Viable Alternative to Costly 15-Year Replacement Mandate
The Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA) took to the Florida State Capital this week to advocate for a critical issue impacting building owners, property managers, and the broader roofing industry: the 15-year roof replacement mandate in Florida’s insurance policies.
On March 26, Florida lobbyist Chip Case and RCMA members held a series of productive meetings with key legislators to educate them on the value of roof maintenance coatings as a sustainable, cost-effective solution for extending roof life—particularly on low slope roofs. These discussions emphasized the need to revise current insurance practices that require full roof replacements at 15 years, even when those roofs are in good condition and eligible for coatings.
Strong Legislative Engagement and Support
The group met with six high-level members of the Florida Legislature, including Senate President Ben Albritton, to raise awareness and build momentum for policy change.
RCMA Attendees Included:
- Gabriela Blanco – Lanco Paints & Coatings
- Chris Huettig – KARNAK
- Izzy Gutman – Soprema
- Will Lorenz – General Coatings Manufacturing Corp
- Jodi Thomas – Henry Company
- Tom Jensen – Holcim
- John Hull – Gulf Coast Infrared (non-member participant)
- Jeff Blank – SR Products
- Jenn Brake – Executive Director, RCMA
Next Steps
RCMA has committed to gathering and submitting additional data to support the case for change. The team also plans to continue its discussions directly with Citizens Insurance.
