RCMA BOD Interview with George Daisey

RCMA BOD Interview with George Daisey

Research Scientist at Dow Construction Chemicals

What is your industry background?
I have been in the chemical, building and construction industry for 39 years. My primary experiences come by representing Dow, a leading raw material supplier to the building and construction industry. I have served in a variety of technical roles at Dow that include technical leadership in roof coatings, wall coatings, air barriers, EIFS, cement-based products, deck stains, house paints and sealers. I have the privilege to interact with many coating manufacturers around the world. I also serve at industry organizations like RCMA, CRRC and ASTM. I am an ally member of NWiR and also a member of the FSCT. At CRRC, I am the Technical Committee Chair. At RCMA, I have been a member since 2006 and recently completed my role as Technical Affairs Committee Chair. I currently serve on the Board of Directors at RCMA and in an ex-officio role at CRRC.

Why is it important to serve on the RCMA Board of Directors?
The board is a diverse group of people who represent varying aspects of the roofing industry. I am glad to represent raw material suppliers on the board and serve all members regardless of their affiliation. I want to contribute to RCMA and help them represent their members and be a presence at important conversations and events that are related to roofing. If we do not speak up for ourselves, someone else will.

What value does RCMA bring to the industry?
RCMA is the leading organization in the industry representing coating manufacturers, raw material suppliers and other interested parties connected to the roofing industry. RCMA is a very important voice in the construction industry. RCMA has a strong technical and government affairs focus which I see as two strong pillars of the organization.

What do you like to do when you’re not immersed in Roof Coating?
I am first a husband and father. Sherrie and I just celebrated our 10th anniversary. I have three sons Will, Sean and Michael, three grandchildren, and fostered 11 children over a six-year period. I am the Executive Director of Riverpsalm Ministries Inc, a 501c-3 nonprofit that reaches out to those in need through music, teaching and hospitality. I am a musician and share my gifts on guitars and vocals with Riverpsalm, my local church and at other events around the country. Sherrie and I love to travel so we get away when we can, and Sherrie often joins me on roofing industry trips so if you haven’t met her, be sure to the next time we meet.
