RCMA BOD Interview with Gino Soroker

Director of Product Management at Kemper System America, Inc.

What is your industry background?
My first exposure to roofing came from spending weekends helping at a friend's father's roofing company. This early experience, combined with my childhood dream of becoming an architect, led me to pursue undergraduate studies in architecture. That path eventually brought me to freelance work for an architect who introduced me to Kemper System and the world of roofing and waterproofing. Over the past 20 years at Kemper System, I've collaborated with architects, contractors, and building owners, educating them on the benefits of liquid-applied membranes for extending the life of roofs. I've actively participated in industry organizations, deepening my knowledge and contributing to the advancement of roofing practices. For the past 12 years, I've been involved with ASTM, helping to develop and update product standards. Currently, I serve as the Director of Product Management, leveraging my expertise to drive innovation and ensure high-quality roofing solutions.

Why is it important to serve on the RCMA Board of Directors?
Serving on the RCMA Board of Directors is an opportunity to give back to the industry that has shaped my career and to contribute to its future direction. I believe my experience working directly with architects, contractors, and building owners provides a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing the roof coatings industry.  Furthermore, my involvement with ASTM has instilled in me the importance of rigorous standards and collaboration in driving innovation and ensuring quality.  I am also always eager to learn from the wealth of knowledge and experience that my fellow board members bring, further enhancing my understanding of the industry and its challenges. As a board member, I am dedicated to advocating RCMA's mission, working to strengthen the industry, promote sustainable practices, and ensure the continued growth and success of its members.

What value does RCMA bring to the industry?
For me the value of RCMA comes down to multiple pillars. The first is Advocacy, RCMA actively advocates for the interests of roof coating manufacturers, representing their concerns and perspectives before regulatory bodies and legislative committees. This advocacy helps shape policies and standards that affect the industry. The second pillar is Technical Expertise of the group, RCMA plays a crucial role in developing and promoting technical standards and best practices for roof coating products and applications. The third pillar is the Education and Training, RCMA provides valuable educational resources and training programs for its members and the broader roofing community. This helps disseminate knowledge about new technologies, application techniques, and industry trends. The last is Networking and Collaboration, RCMA fosters a collaborative environment where members can connect, share knowledge, and work together on industry challenges. This strengthens the industry as a whole and promotes innovation.

What do you like to do when you’re not immersed in Roof Coating?
When I'm not immersed in the world of roof coatings and my full-time job, my priority is my family. I cherish the time we spend together, whether we're traveling to new destinations, exploring local attractions, or simply enjoying everyday moments at home. Watching my children learn and grow is incredibly rewarding, and I actively participate in their activities and encourage their interests. I also love being outdoors and try to incorporate as many outdoor activities as possible into our lives.
