RCMA BOD Interview with Ryan Blad
Sales Leader and Chemist at 838 Coatings
What is your industry background and role today?
I graduated college with a degree in chemistry. Initially my introduction to the industry was in the lab as a formulation chemist working on Acrylic Roof Coating formulations. I helped manage the technical service with our outside sales team. I eventually worked my way into the sales side of the business as it gave me more opportunity to travel and grow my career. Currently, I manage the northern sales territory for 838 Coatings.
Why is it important to get involved with RCMA and RCMA's Board of Directors?
It is important to serve with the RCMA in many capacities. The committees allow members to get engaged on issues that directly affect our member companies. These meetings are opportunities to learn and build a network of industry colleagues. I feel like the Board of Directors itself is a privilege that is earned through years of dedicated support to the industry and association and I am very thankful to be able to be involved.
What value does RCMA bring to the industry?
The RCMA board works to move the association forward by identifying opportunities and threats for our member companies to be aware of while also managing the day to day operations of the association to ensure that it is healthy and always on track towards our mission. The RCMA has members all throughout the country that are involved in many different industry associations. It is vital to have these connections that can then report back different news around the industry. RCMA does a great job presenting all of this industry information to its members.
What do you like to do when you’re not immersed in roof coatings?
I have an amazing family that pretty much takes up most of my free time. My wife (Breanna) just completed graduate school to become an Elementary school Principal and I have 4 Kids (Carter-12, William-9, Ellie-8, & Hudson-5) that occupy most of my free time. I really enjoy golf and the outdoors (hiking, fishing, camping). I try to intertwine family with those activities as much as possible.
