RCMA Update: Key Initiatives Advancing Our Industry
Your Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA) is actively working on several important initiatives to support the industry, advance research, and provide valuable resources for our members. Here are the latest updates:
Florida Insurance Issue
RCMA has taken significant steps to address the insurance classification challenges affecting our industry in Florida. We have hired lobbyist Chip Case with Jefferson Monroe in Tallahassee, FL, and recently held a second meeting with the office of the Chief Financial Officer. Our next step is an important meeting with Citizens Insurance, where we will continue advocating for fair and accurate classification of roof coatings to ensure a more balanced insurance landscape for our industry.
Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)
Sustainability and transparency remain top priorities for RCMA. The EPDs are now in development, providing standardized documents that will help members demonstrate the environmental impact of their products. If you are interested in participating, please contact Ralph Paroli at rparoli@roofcoatings.org.
ACE Laboratories 7-Year Study
RCMA members Jason Smith (Garland Company) and Ryan Blad (838 Coatings) are leading an extensive 7-year research study with ACE Laboratories to assess the long-term durability and effectiveness of various roof coating technologies. The results of this study will provide valuable insights into product performance and further validate the benefits of roof coatings for extended service-life, durability and energy efficiency.
SR Products Surface Roughness Testing
RCMA member Matt Dickinson (SR Products) is currently evaluating surface roughness testing methods to measure microscopic irregularities on roofing surfaces. This research will help manufacturers refine application techniques and improve product adhesion, ensuring optimal performance and durability. He is also leading this effort at ASTM D08.
Gallon Reports
Accurate market data is crucial for tracking industry trends and growth. RCMA has a new provider, BRX Research, for our Gallon Reporting program. Reporting will now be conducted via an online secure portal, ensuring that data security remains a top priority.
Virtual Training Program
The Communications, Membership, and Education Committee is currently reviewing and updating the three virtual training modules. This initiative will provide accessible, high-quality training resources for industry professionals, ensuring they have the knowledge and skills necessary to install and maintain roof coatings effectively.
These initiatives underscore RCMA’s commitment to supporting our members and driving progress in the roof coatings industry. We appreciate your continued engagement and look forward to keeping you updated on our progress.
